PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH NEWS.
The new church* at. Makirikiri was opened on Sunday last by the Rev. J. K. Elliott, B.A. , of Wellington, when the little building was taxed to its utmost tO' contain the congregation. Elliott, who also preached with great : acceptance at Turakina morning and evening, gave a sermon appropriate to the occasion, and the hymns and prayers were all alike suitable. The Rev. John Ross and the Rev. E. McOully also took part in 'the service. On the Monday evening a social gathering was held in the church and a very enjoyable time was spent. There was a fine musical programme in which Misses Wallace and Couper, Mesdames J. , Wilson and Hamilton took part. Messrs Schultz and Hamilton also sang songs which were much appreciated. Addresses were given by Revs. Gordon, Elliott, Ross and McOully, and after tea had been served the gathering concluded at about ten o’clock. The usual votes of thanks were accorded on motion of Mr R. K. Simpson. For th#last week ten of the Home missionaridlfc of the Presbyterian' Church have been in residence at the Maori Girls’ College, Turakina, for the purpose of devoting themselves to conference and study with special reference to their own work. The missionaries have come iu somej cases from as far away as CautjM bury to the school.
