BIG HAUL.
DIAMONDS. PLATI.NIUM, GOLD. £4OOO WORTH STOLEN. One of the biggest hauls of jewellery made for "many years was reported to the Sydney police by the loser, Madame A. Ma-rjn Antion-ette A.vonzo, "Berringa,'' Caledonian roucl. Rose Bay, on December 9. The loss is stated by the police to be about £4OOO, but evon this amount is considered to be On the conservative side in estimating the value o: the heap of diamonds, platinum and gold articles taken. The property was stolen from a hat box in a bedroom between 0 a.m. and. 11 a.m. the previous day. TTJe losier 'arrived in Australia about a year ago. She had been staying near Blacktown, but later went to live at Rose Bay. She is wellknown in society cire-les. One of the articles stolen was a wristlet watch a present from the Queen of Italy. Madame Av an zo became suspicious in consequence of something that ocstirred, and, going to the bedroom, opened the hat hox to see if the valuables were there. She was startled to find that they had been taken. A telephone message was sent to the Rose Bav police station, and in a short time detectives set about making the necessary inquiries.
