ANZAC DAY.
MEETING AT OTAKI. A meeting to make arrangements for celebrating Anzae Day was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday afternoon. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr Brandon), Revs. Petrie and Keall, Crs. Bills, Cockrell, Broadway, Messrs G. F. Atmore, L. G. Lowry, and the Town Cleric (Mr Da vies). His Worship in mentioning the object of the meeting said quite a number of citizens preferred an evening to a day service and stated this was a matter that could be discussed. He pointed out that returned soldiers were not numerous in the township and that therefore there -would not be the display as at first anticipated.
The Rev. Petrie said he preferred the afternoon service to an evening one. while Or. Broadway pointed out that by changing to evening many country people and children would be debarred from attending. The Rev. Keall, in agreeing, said it would prove a loss to hold an evening service.
It was eventually decided to hold the service in the theatre at - o'clock, and that the procession leave the state School. It was agreed to ask Mrs Stable 10 arrange with the Band relative to the choral portion of the programme, and to ask Capt. Bax to act as marshal Of the procession. It was also decided to ask Mr W. H. Field, M.T.. to give an address, while short addresses will also be given by the Mayor, the Revs. Petrie, Keall, and Tcmuera Tokoaitua.
The Revs. Petrie and Keall were appointed a programme committee. Messrs Broadway. Taylor. BiMs, and St. George were appointed to distribute al) y wreaths sent. It was resolve,! to provide special .-eating accommodation (or returned soldiers, and to exclude the "Dead March" from the pro-
gramme. ° ■ - A.\/% i.1e.l to After discussion it was decided to give the net proceeds to the Rest Resort, although there was a feeling that improvement should be effected to the ground. Mr A.more said that before definitely donating the proceeds to the Rest Resort he would like to know whether the improvements t 0 the domain a, suggested would materialise.
