POLITICAL.
To the Editor. Sir. —As an ordinary observer the political situation in this electorate seems to me to be obscure and decidedly unsatisfactory. For many years we have been represented by a man of whom any constituency would be proud and who supports a party whose actions during the last ten years merit the support of the country electorates. A good worker, a gentleman at all times, ilr Field is a politician who has always looked at things from, a Dominion standpoint rather than taking an insular view. Now we have throe candidates in the running, with a possible fourth. If this seat is to be retained for the party so ably led by Mr Massey vote splitting must be eliminated. While recognising the right of any man to contest a seat under normal times nnd settled conditions, I must say these times certainly do not permit of any experiment as far as a choice of candidates is concerned. Seeing Mr Field is the Official Reform candidate it is the duty of all Reformers here, including Mr'c. I. Harkness, to give him their strongest support, instead of endangering the seat and allowing a possible chance for a socialist to become its member. I sincerely trust wise councils. will prevail and that all will make their own aspirations or ambitions second on this great occasion to the welfare of the Dominion. —I am. etc., H. L. BEAUCHAMP.
