'The superior quality of JST.Z. grown seeds is being continually deiuoiistrated. The lii^li quality is probably due to the fact that New Zealand has one of the finest climates in the world. We have a very equable rain-fall which ! keeps the srops in a healthy Mate oi vigorous growth right through the growing period, whereas in feme countries, there is a hot dry period, when the pltmts become pinched and shrivelled, ami such plants cannot produce line, plump, bold seed of high germinating quality, in other countries, there lis frequently an excessive rain-fall or damp) weather tor some weeks, which is ; just as injurious in the opposite direction. In this season's trials, made by . the Fordell school, Cooper's >'.Z. grown and selected mangel seed gave very fine results in all varieties. Cooper's giant half sugar mangel cropped 5-' tons 'J cut. per acre. In view of the ' fact that the ground has been worked i j for years and that it was not pructici aide to give it a dressing of farm-yard 'manure, which it needed, the results were very satisfactory, Such trials I serve a very line educational purpose I and are' most Iwlpful to the boys in acquiring knowledge of cultivation, \aiI ieties. and results.
