Education Board.
A special meeting of the Education Board to allocate the building grant and other business, preseut: Miss Heywood, Messrs Bauchope (chairman), Faul, Wade, Adlam, Mackay, Ambury, Hill and Allsworth.
A deputation from Kaimate waited upon the Board re increased accommodation and election of separate residence for the teacher.
The question of obtaining a school site in the Huiroa township was left with the chairman. The Board then went into committee to consider the allocation of the building grant of £I7OO. The schedule of requirements totalled over £SOOO and after several hours consideration it was resolved that the architect will be instructed to prepare plans and call tenders for the following work : —Waipuku (removal) Tongaporutu (school), Mangareor Strathmore (school), Rahotu (additions), Huiroa (school), Cardiff (residence), Kaimate (residence), Albert Road (painting), Egmont Villiage (painting and repairs), Huirangi (painting residence), Kaimate (painting school), Midhurst (new chimney and paintiug inside, painting school and residence), Oiuata (painting interior), Opunake (paintiiig school and residence), Opunake (painting inside), Urenui (painting school and residence), Wortley Road) paiuting school and residence), furniture and apparatus. Including architect's feea £7O and school apparatus £l5O the total amount allocated was £lßls the balance being made up out of the Education fund which has a substantial credit balance. It was decided to inform Mr Harkness in reply to his letter that the Board is now in treaty to acquire the site ou Mr J. Davidson's leasehold, and when acquired the Board will expoet the committee to carry out the original operation. Several Inspectors' reports wore then considered and in the case of Upluid road and Inglewood, where tho results were not considered satisfactory, the matter was referred to the cha'rman, Iu the case of Cardiff, after considerable discussion, it was decided, That the Cardiff Committee bo informed that it is the iuten'iou of Board to give the head master of the Carliff public school three month's notice of dismissal. Several matters of detail were attended to and it was decided that the next meeting of the Board will be held on Thursday, 19th iust. The Board then adjourned.—Egmont Settler.
