PUNIHO.
(Our Own Correspondent.) Mr P. Murphy, who has let his farm and is leaving the district, was entertained at a concert and dance, given by the surrounding settlers, on Friday last, a large number of residents and friends being present. Singing and dancing were kept up till nearly daybreak, and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. On dit Mr P. Murphy has leased the Moturoa Hotel. Mr Thos. Julian, while driving a team of bullocks last week, had an unpleasant surprise, one of the leaders suddenly going mad. He succeeded in getting out of the yoke, and after killing its mate made down the main road. I hear he is still at large. The Pnniho Library Institute held a committee meeting on the 4th inst. A new supply of books have been added to the library, and several new members were elected. TURF ITEMS. I hear Monte Carlo will be seen over hurdles a*i the Hawke’s Bay meeting. The New Zealand Cup nominations number about 60; the Melbourne Cup 148; and the Caulfield Cup 114. Mr Mr Gollan has six representatives in both of the latter. _ The Great Northern Hurdles resulted as follows: Liberator 1, Warrior 2, Union Jack 8.
