NATIVE INTELLIGENCE.
Hawera, June 23. Major Brown wisely ordered the native prisoners to be released, and not brought into Hawera. This caused a great feeling of relief to the settlers. The Maoris show no sign of, .fight. The prisoners were taken chiefly by the instructions of a few officers outside, who incited the action against the orders of Livingstone and Wilson. All we as settlers intend to do is to keep the fanatics off our land. We are short of arms and ammunition, and many men are still without rifles.
