F An American cousin lately dining at an English restaurant in Piccadilly, had the I misfortune to be served with some chicken broth of the invat watery description. Calling the waiter, he thus addressed him tri thenasal twang of his n»f>f[i*-i- eotintry : ** I guess*, waiter, if you'd n\*i take tUU i»r»'tU down and get that chicken t<» wade through tt once more, it might improve it." The waiter left the room with the broth, but S'»m returned, and placed it before the humorous American. After tasting the broth again, and finding it still watery, he asked whether the chicken had waded throtiirh the soup. " Ye*." replied the waiter. "" Well." said the American, " it tu'*st have walked through on stilts." They haw very enthusiast it* undertakers in Danhnry. They are always on the lookout for- business, and trying to get ahead of one another. The wife of a prominent, citizen was known to he quite ill some ttvno ago, and both undertakers made up their mrttds to provide the funeral if she should die. Ou Thursday night the husband dropped the paregoric bottle on the floor, and seafced the invalid so that site gave a tittle scream. The next instant the "family heard somebody staggering upstairs, knocking the paper otf the wall with some kind "of implement. It was dones. the undertaker, bringing up one of his patent hermetically sealed t:oltins. fie had been waiting on the front step, and hearing the scream concluded that the end had come, and rushed in all ready. He dashed upstairs, as the husband had opened the door, set the coffin end np on the carpet, and exclaimed eagerly, ** Gimme the first chalice. ilrvry her "for" forty dollars with silver trimming* !" ttefore the indignant man had time to reply, a noise was heard, and fii'owu, the other undertaker, appeared with one of his '• ineorrodable burial haskets." '• Don't do it : I'll plant her for thirty dollars : five off for cash, put a uiono-Tam on the casket, and thro.v in a tombstone."
