At the usual meeting of the City Council, the Reserves Committee recommended that sections 23 and 24, block 1., of the Wharves and Quays Reserves be granted as a site for a Sailors' Home, at an annual rental of £25. The recommendation was agreed to by tne Council. DAMAGES FOR DAMAGES In the District Court, George Hyndjuan, jeweller, recovered £IOO from Smith, the eoacii proprietor, for damages for injuries received, by tne careless driving of defendant's coacn, on wliion lie was a passenger on Oimstmas Day. MAC ANDREW AND PARTY. It is reported irom Wellington that unless Mr. jxiaeandrew succeeds in carrying ms mo Dion re Abolition, all his following will withdraw from tue Assembly. VOLUNTEER ARMOURY. The Provincial nave granted the Howling-street Reserve site to tiie Volunteers, lor the purposes of a drill sued, armoury, and gun sued. PETITION FROM THE COUNCIL. Tne (Jny Council have prepared petitions for signature by tiie City Council and citizens generally, for presentation to Parliament, requescmg members to grant them tne riglit over tiie Wiiarves and Quay Reserves, and not to act in compliance witn tne Harbour Board's request. Tne city members of the Assembly have been communicated with, and promised to suppore tiie rigiits of the Corporation. PRESENTATION. Captain Tunbridge will, this afternoon, be the recipient of a handsome gold watch and cnain, valued at fifty guineas, for gallantly rescuing tiie snip wrecked crew of tiie cutter Dagmar.
THE WASTE LANDS BOARD AND THE OAMARU WATER SUPPLY. The Waste Lands Board considered the application on behalf of tiie Municipal (joimcil of Oamaru, to be allowed to purcnase Section 30, Block 111., Awamoko District, for Oamaru Water Supply purposes. Tiie Board, having no power to grant the application, decided to recommend the Government to reserve land for tiie purposes named. MR. SHRIMSKI AND THE HARBOUR BOARD. To-day's Gazette notifies the appointment of Mr. Shrimski as member of the Oamaru Harbour Board, vice Hon. John M'Lean, resigned; also, Henry De Lautour and Arthur Hay Maude to be trustees of the Oamaru Racecourse, in place of Messrs. Julius and M'Lean. THE CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES. A meeting, similar to that held in the Drill Shed on last Monday, will be held at South Dunedin on Friday.
