MUSIC AND A KING
A King of Sweden of a couple of centuries ago was a lover of music, and a performer expert enough to take part in string quartets. On ono occasion the quartet found itself in confusion during a, performance. After investigation, the stoppage which became necessary was explained. Discreetly, the King was informed that he had not observed 13 bars rest in his part. “Wait 13 bars!” Ilis Majesty exclaimed, “A King should never wait for anything!” It will be remembered, too, that the ex-German Emperor’s famous musical appearances were often enlivened by antagonism between (lie art and tho royal dignity. Both suffered.
