I Pekingese dogs have a curious history. The first one to be brought to England was given as a. present to Queen Victoria in 1361. It had been found in lhe Palace at Pokin by an English soldier. Groat efforts were made by the attendants of the Kmpres.s of China t «> reIgain the little animal, bul eventually a | bargain was arranged by which the dog was to Ik l given to Queen Victoria as a 'present from the Chinese ruler. The objeel of this commotion, named iLooty, was then sent In I'.uckiiigham I Palace, but he did not apnear to enjoy i English society, and remained u lonely little, creature until the arrfval. about six months later, of another dog of the I same species..
