NEW USE FOR BABY CARS
WAR OFFICE REQUIREMENTS The British' War Office lias recently placed, after extensive tests, nil order for inn “baby” ears, embodying certain alterations to standard production in view of the special requirements of 'military service. In order-to cope with any and‘every soa-Lof. country tlie..hack axle ratio was slightly lowered and stronger springs were fitted, while tow-liooks were fitted to the front axle to assist in extricating - the vehicle from hogs, ditches, and, similar obstacles which plight he encountered. Included in the tool kit was a fitment for clamping on to the huh caps so that with a man on each side the car can be lifted bodily on to firm ground. Special non-skid devices were fitted, consisting of a length of Balata belting carrying a number of metal clips. When necessary this belting is laid round the tyre, the clips so bent as to provide a grip on slippery and treacherous surfaces.
The bodywork was specially designed to War Office specification the overall height being kept as. low as possible, ample leg-.room and maximum width being aimed at. The back of the body is fonfted -into a locker for the accommodation of kit find beneath the locker further storage space is provided by |i shallow receptacle.
