DETERMINED SUICIDE.
A most determined suicide waa committed ihi3 afternoon by a man named John Matthews, a storr-man in the employ of Messrs Sharp and Pickering. Shortly after one o'clock a policeman wbb called ia by one of the clerka s who said that two ehots had been heard in the back premises, and he believed that the storeman had shot himself. On the policeman proceeding to the rear of the store he found the unfortunate man in the closet with a fire barrelled revolver lying by him, two of the barrels having been discharged, and tbe other three being still loaded, and thß pistol case near him. A bullet wound waa seen in the forehead which must have caused instantaneous death. There was no trace, we br-lievp, of the second bullet. Matthews had been in low spirits for somo time, consequent, it i 3 said, upon his hating received notice that bis services would no longer be required, An icqoest will, of course, be held.
