CARY'S OPERA COMPANY.

Planquette'a remarkably pretty opera "Les Cloches do Corneville " attracted another good house laßt nij;bt, the front seats and gallery being well filled, while there was a good sprinkling in the pit. The one who received most favor at the hands of the audience was Mr Porter in the character of the Marquis, his singing and acting both being excellent, and the character generally beiDg one which 6uited him admirably. Signor Morley was iv fine voice, and acquitted himself remarkably well as Grenicheux. Mr Carey, as the Miser, waa scarcely so successful, but it certainly is requiring too much lo expect that a man should be able to thoroughly identify hinißelf with such totally opposite characters as a member of a travelling company fiuds himself compelled at times to personify. The Butler, Gobo, and the two clerks were all immensely amusing. The extraordinary dance performed by one of the latter defies all description, but an idea of how it was received may be formed from the fact of hia being twice calkd upon for a repetition of bis marvellous contortions. Somehow or other we have in penning this notice drifted into leaving the ladies to tho last, for which we apologise. Ie is certainly not from forgeti'jl'ieas, for non 3 wbo saw Serpoiette last right, whether as the maid servant or the Cjuntes?, could allow so charming a creature to piss out of miv.i so quickly. la that character Miss .Leaf did unquestionably lock well, but— these dreadful " buta " — she would have left just a little more favorable impreesion had she been better up in her part. Miss Amy Juhn3 as Germaina was decidedly an improvement upon the sane youug lady as Ruth in the "Pirates," indeed, the part in every way appeared to suit her much better. Tne choruses went with a merry ring throughout, the famous Maypole dance was cleverly ex executed, the scenery, moßt ;.o£ jWbiuh was entirely new, wa3 remarkably 'pretty, "and the tableaux were both pleasing and effective." For to-night a great programme is announced,, namely, " The Sorcerer " and the second act of the " Pirates." Id the former the incantation scene alone is Fufficient to attract a crowded house, and the intimation given by Mr Gary last night that the prices would be reduced to 4s, 2s 6<J, and la will not in any way tend to promote among the opera loving people of Nelson a desire to etay away.
