WANGANUI SPRING MEETING.
Wanganui, Friday. There is beautiful weather, a large attendance, and the course is in splendid condition.
Maiden Plate of £50.— Ely 1, Taipo 2, Discretion 3. Eight started, Ely was the favorite. Comet cut out the running with Taipo next and Ely fourth. This order was observed for half a mile when Ely went on next to Taipo and the pair passed Comet who was beaten. Taipo led until jugt before entering the straight when Ely c*me away and won easily by three lengths, the same distance between second and third horses. Time, 2min 48secs.
Handicap Hurdles of £50. — Angler 1, Monk 2, Hawthorn 3. A very pretty race, the jumping being good throughout. Angler held back till the last quarter of a mile when he ran up to Monk and the latter jumping unkindly at the last hurdle allowed Angler to secure the lead and he won by tiro lengths. Time, 4mins 25Jsecs.
Wanganui S^a'ws To? £150. Merlin, 1 ; Ventnre, 2 ; Slauder filly, 3. Eleven started. Won by a lengih Time 4mins. l^ecs.
