Calcutta, September 2.2 Telegrams received to-day from Candahar report that the Ameer has formed a new camp in the neighborhood of the city, and one wbich commands the roads both to Herat and Candahar. London, September 22. Tho City Corporation at its sitting to-day adopted an address of condolence with Mrs Garfield oa the loss of her husband. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £13,000,000, an increase of £600,000 during the week. Bank rate remains at 4, and market rnte at 3| per cent. At the wool Bale yesterday C3OO bales were offered, and an active demand was shown for all descriptions offered. The tone of to-day's sale was, however, weaker 7100 bales were catalogued. The total quantity withdrawn from sale since (he commencement of the series is 21.000 bales. The auctions close on the 9th October. Consols, 99J. New Zealand securities are without quotable change.
