Mrs Hampson, the evangelist preacher, proceeded north to day. The Donedin Presbytery bai unanimously sustained tho call of the Ear Mr Inglia of Baliarat. Chribtohtjech, Tuesday. One of the Health Officers in the course of his enquiries discovered a case where scarlatina existed in the house of a person supplying milk. Underneath the bed on which the child that was ill was lying he accidentally looked, and found an open pan containing milk which was to be sold. The people are very scared about the milk since the revelations. Wednesday. The Wanganui horse " Dan " was omitted from the list of acceptances for the Canterbury Jockey Club Handicap. A petition is being started in Ashley electoral district asking the Hon E. Eichardson, at present one of the members for the city of Christchurch, to allow himself to be nominated for that constituency. Wangandj, Wednesday. A disastrous fire broke out at 4*30 this morning in the residence of Peter Ball, a draper, on St. John's Hill, which was burnei to the g.-nund. A portion of the furniture was saved. The inmates escaped with much difficulty. The cause is unknown. The building was insured in the New Zealand office for £400 but the furniture was totally uninsured. The estimated loss ib £1000. There is no clue to the robbery from the Stormbird, Robberies of varicus kicds are greatly on the increase here. New Plymouth, Wednesday. The Wanaka sailed for Nelson and Sou them ports at 11 o'clock. Passengers : Mrs Ponton, Miss Goodman, and Mrs King.
