Wednesday, May 18. . A special meeting of the Council was held on the above day, in confoimity with the provisions of Section 4 of the Public Works Act) 188 >, Sub Bection G, to take into cottidaration certaiu alterations in the public [ roads in Suburban South proposed by the Waimea Highway Boards viz:— 1. To stop up the public road between sections numbered 52, 53, 66, and 16, on the plan of Suburban Souh, and to take land for a road iv exchange 43 links wide and 28 chains 40 links long, through and along the pouth side of the said section 53. , Ji~ 2. To stop up the road lying through sections numbered 44, 45, and 47 on the plan of Suburban South, and to take in exchange a road 43 links wide and 28 chains long through aud along the north-east Bide of the said sections 44 and 45. j : Present, all the members. Mr Kdward Trolove. and Mr Alfred Allport attended for the purpose of showing that they would be injuriously affected by the first of the proposed alterations, unless certain conditions were assented to by the Waimea Highway Board. ..'.'."'. Tbe Chairman was instructed to suggest the Agricultural Hall, Richmond, as a suitable place for the new district first named and tbe Institute at Lower Wakefield for the other. ; ; ,The .Chairman reported having on the 6fch May received a telegram from the Marine Department as follows: — " The master of the Lady Barkly reports no harbor lights at Motueka in April. Please attend to same." And that he bad telegraphed in' reply that the lata lessee of the Motueka wharf Had removed the Motueka harbor lights, and he (the Chairman) bad applied to the Marine Department to carry, dut its expressed intention to erect proper leading lights.'
