CORRESPONDENCE.
To thb Editor of the "Evening Mail."
Sir,— l cannot allow the false and injurious assertions of Mr Webster to remain uncontradicted. The facts are briefly these :— On taking possession of the section io Toi Toi street I found the drain partially filled with accumulated rubbish and cut only to the extent of two-thirds of the length of the fence; I therefore cut the remaining third, and this could by no possibility injure Mr Webster which he well knows. He deserves reprehension for expressions unworthy of his position as a gentleman ; but more than that, " Those who live in glass houses should beware of throwing stones." Twenty yards waß the extent of my drainage, and without this my land would have been nearly valueless, but Mr Webster has cut fully one hundred yards along his fence in MontrealBtreet. Did he consult the Council previous to doing it? He knows he did not. The real truth is, that drainage is so absolutely necessary to both our lands that no City Council could or would object to what either of us had done ; but all true men must deprecate tbe übo of language indicative of feelings the very reverse of those that one neighbor should have for another. In conclusion I wish emphatically to deny that Mr Lightfoot authorised or recommended my plan. In conversations that I have had with him he has always insisted on an application to tbe Council as a necessary preliminary to cross road drainages. -I am, &c, Geo. Pagb.
