Vibnna, January 10. . The marriage which Waa arranged to take place next month between the Crown Prince Rudolph, of Austria, and the Princess Stephanie has been postponed. Lokdon, Jan. 11. The rumors which. were current last week of intended Fenian raids on -the Volunteer armories are renewed, and are again receiving the attention of the authorities. Reuorts recently received point to the possibility of attacks on the military establishments at Gosport and Chester Castle, and extensive precautions are being taken at both places to Withstand any assault It is officially announced tbat LieutenantGeneral Sir Donald Stewart, who commanded the British army in Cabul, will shortly succeed General Sir Frederick Haines as Com-mander-in-Chief in India. Bombat, January 11. News has been received here that a plot has been discovered amongst the natives of Kolapore, a town in the south of this Presidency, to assassinate all the European residents in tbe place. Owing to the detection of the conspirators the danger was averted, and a number of arrests have been made of the would-be assassins. Paeib, January 11. The French Municipal elections, which have just concluded, show a considerable majority to the Republicans.
[Sydney Herald specials.] [Per Rotomabana at Russell.] Constantinople; January 8. The announcement already made that the Porte has refused to submit the Greek frontier question to the- arbitration of the Great Powers is fully confirmed. Fresh proposals have been made by the Turkish Government for the settlement of the Greek frontier difficulty to Ihe effect that a Conference of representatives of all the Great Powers be held here at an early date, and that the Greek Government be invited to send delegates, and that the Conference be empowered to finally settle the question at issue. A general belief is prevalent that any attempt made by the European Powers to bring about an understanding between the Turkish and Greek Governments will fail. Even in well informed circles a favorable result is not expected. London, January 5. An active interchange of communications iB going on between the European Powers on the subject of the unsettled claims of Greece and the difficulties raised by Turkey regarding the frontier question. It is understood tbat the Powers are urging on . Greece and Turkey the desirableness of jointly agreeing to refer the unsettled question to the arbitration of the European Powers, as proposed a short time since by the British Government. No support is at present given to the Turkish proposal for another Conference. In consequence of the serious character of the news coming to hand daily from Transvaal, orders have been sent by the Home Government to India for the despatch of a further contingent of troopß, which will leave for Natal with the least possible delay.
