Auckland, Monday.

The sixteenth half-yenrly meeting of the South British lusurance Company was held today. The following is the report : — The Directors have pleasure in placing before tbe shaieholderß the following statement of accounts for the sixteenth half-yearly period ended 31st of August last. The income from fire and marine premiums bas been £63,765 8a Bd, ftud from interest and transfer fees, £5278 Os 6rl; total, £69,043 9s 2d; which, added to £2343 3s 5d brought forward from the previous half-year, makes a total of £71,386 12s 7d. The total expenditure has been:— Pire and marine losses paid and outstanding at the close of the books, £30,114 5s 3d; reinsurances, commissions, salaries, printing and advertising and general charges, £20,301 Os sd, leaving a balance of £11,971 6s lid to credit of profit and loss account, from which your Directors recommend the payment of

a dividend at the rate of ten per cent per annum. If the dividend be sanctioned by the shareholders it will be payable at the head office on tho 13th October, and at the branches on receipt of advice. It will be the duly of the shareholders to elect two Directors in place of the Hon H. Chamberlain and .T. Howard, Esq., who retire iu accordance (with the Articles of Association, but who are eligiblo and offor themselves for re-election. Tuesday. Arrived— -Australia from Sydney.
