The Arawata,, after- being in the Graving Dock at Port Clalmers a fortnight," duriDg which time she underwent a thorough overhaul, 150 men- being engaged working at her night and day tho whole time, sailed for Melbourne at the latter end- of last week. The Union Steam Ship Company have added another steamer to their already large fleet. She ~was launched from the Port Chalmers Graving Dock last Saturday afternoon, and was named the 800 Jum. The new boat is an extremely handsome little vessel, constructed of Siemens patent steel, and was built at Dumbarton by- the firm of Messrs Denny and Co., and sent out in sections to Port Chalmers, where she was put together by Messrs Morgan and Cable. .Her dimensions are — Length of keel, 70ft. ; breadth of beam, moulded, 13ft. ; depth of hold, 6ft. 3in. ; while she is registered afc 59 tons old measurement. She is intended for service at Napier as a tender to the Company's ocean-going steamers, and will carry about 100 passengers, with mails, luggage, &c , on a miximum draught of 3ft:6ir).^*Tbe motive power will be supplied by compound surface condensing engines of 12 hp nominal, but working up to 60 h p.
