i .. j A circular has been issued by . the Secretary of this Association at ;.WeJlington, which gives some particulars of the working of the Association .and its expenditure for last year. • Suii^- . marised it is as follows :— j The statement of last year's accounts show that only £112 17s 6d was received os Volunteer subscriptions, and £24 2s from ordinary members, 4b .against £180 Is 6i and £61 19V thje previous year. Nevertheless, £100,3 10a was distributed in money \vzy, including the Government grant. For the comiDg year (1881) a reduced vote of £500 has been obtained irom the Government. The amount ot fixed prize money for the coming Marco meeting is £700, but the .Council look for extra exertions on the part of th^e Volunteers to enable tbem to carry out tbe projected programme. A special appeal is made to. companies to subscribe to the " Company's Trophy," 'a new match for both rifles and carbine^. The followiug is a suuimary of th;e matches and particulars .thereof— The third prize meeting will be held at Brightwater, near NelsoD, on the -jday of March; 1881. Ihere. are nine; teen matches in all, seven for rifles seven for carbines, and live for any
member, to be shot for under the rules of the Association : — For rifles only, there will be match No. 2 (200 yard*), twelve prizes, amount £35 ; No. 5 (400, 500, and 600 yards), nineteen prizes, £50 ; No. 6 (200, 400, 500, and 600 yards, nineteen. prizes, £60 ; No. 9(200 and 400 yards), nineteen prizes, £50. _ For Carbines Only.—Matcb. 3 (2po yards), twelve prizes, £35; match' s (200, 400, and 500 yards), nineteen .prizes, £50 ; match 7 (200, 300, 400, and 500 yards), nineteeu prizes, £60 ; match 10 (200 and 4CO yards), fourteen prizes, £50. Por any Member. — To be shot with rifles of Government pattern : Match 1 (200,400, and 500 yards), twentythree prizes, £70 j match 8 (300, 400, aud 500 yards), twenty-six prizes, £60. If the National Rfle Association Silver Medal arrives in the colony in time it will be competed for under conditions to be named by the council. North vT South (Rifles)— 2oo, 500 sandj6oO yards; open only to the ten highest aggregate scorerß, belonging to each island in matches 2, 4, 6, and 9. riorth v.
