WRECK OF THE SORATA.

It was a fine night when she struck; -The deck was fall of passengers, ■ and tbeynQticed how close the land seemed. Passengers" were all landed, but next mornjp ing came, on hoard again under the impresr ■ sioa thai the steamer would be got off next tide ; but every effort proved futile, and when the tide lowered the Sorata listed ' heavily over to starboard. She seemed to hang on the midship section. As soon as the » tide had run the first quarter ebb, she swung violently round till her head was at right angles to the coast line. The scene is ' described as very impressive. The Sorata was lightened from stem to stern, while the cargo was being discharged ; a crowd of vessels lying by her; and the undergrowth on -the Island fired— which with thia noiss and clang of discharging cargo all helped to make the scene a striking one. j
