[advertisement.] To the Editor op thb "Evening Mail.' Sir— l am anxious to make public the following letter addressed by myself to Mr J. M. Atkinson, the Government Engineer. Yours, &c, P. Dat. (Copy.) J. M. Atkinson, Esq., Government Engineer, Nelson. Dear Sir — Before leaving this district, I consider it is my duty to pay you the highest compliment for the correctness of your levels on the Bell Grove contract, Nelson and Foxhill railway. I need not remark ) that it is very important in constructing a \ railway that the engineer's line and levels should be accurate ; and as the contractor of the Bell Grove section, I consider that your accuracy very materially assisted me in the formation, which was proved by the permanent levels ere the contract was passed. I trust you havo a long and happy course before you, aud trust, soon to see you occupy . a higher position in the service, which you are well qualified to fill. I am yours most truly, P. Dat.
