Adelaide, Wednesday. The Treasurer made his Financial Statement in the Legislative Assembly last night. It showed that the revenue for the pasfc finaucial year amounted to £1,831.000, being £245,000 below tho estimate, and leaving a debit balance of £243,000, exclusive of £30,000 appearing on the supplementary estimates. He estimated the revenue for ihe present year at £2,013,000, aud the expenditure at £1,945,000, leaving a deficit of £175,000, which will be covered by new taxes. Tbe latter will, however, be deferred in view of the elections, wbich will shortly take place. Melbourne, Wednesday. M. Soundry, the Frencb Commissioner who was wounded at the Opera House, is a passenger for Europe by the Garonne. Sailed — Arawata for the Bluff. Hobarton, Wednesday, The " Tasmanian Parliament was opened yesterday by the acting Governor, who, in his speech on the occasion, announced what measures would be prepared for increases of taxation, with a view to augmenting the revenue. Sydney, Wednesday. The Hon. Saul Samuel, PoßtmasterGeneral, has. been appointed Agent-General for New South Wales in London. The Hon. Francis Sutton has been appointed Post-master-General, and Sir George Innes Minister of Justice and Public Ins truction. The youth Ball, who some time ago offered the Premier , £50 as a bribe to secure an appointment in the Civil Service, has been brought up for trial and discharged on his own recognisances.
