Wellington, Tuesday night. The Government have received London advices that £1,100,000 of the Five Million Loan had been converted into Five Per Cent Inscribed Stock, under the Consolidated Stock Act, 1877. It is stated here that Mr Hislop, the member for Wai taki, will resign his seat owing to a pressure of private business. Wednesday. At the R.M. Court this morning the proprietors of the Prince of Wales and White Swan, were fined £2 for Sunday tradiug. Dunedin, Wednesday. A married woman named {Esther Teague died very suddenly yesterday afternoon. She has been residing with Mrs Atkinson at the corner of Cargill and Scotland-streets, and after partaking of lunch went to her room to dress. Mrs Atkinson, not hearing her moving about, looked into the room about a quarter of an hour later and found her lying dead on the floor. Dr Murphy was immediately sent for, and attributed her death to heart disease. The deceased, who was about forty years of age, had frequently complained of coldness and pain in her side, but was not considered sufficiently unwell to render it necessary to summon a doctor. Oamaru, Wednesday. Mr Hislop, M.H.R., has announced his resignation in print. Although for some time it has been understood that this would take place, nothing definite has occurred. Regarding hia successor, a rumor is current that Mr W. L. Rees, of Napier, will contest the seat. Hawera, Wednesday. Mr Hursthouse, engineer in charge of the road works, has returned from exploring and cutting a track from Stratford to Opunake along the foot of Mount Egmont. He describes the country as very level, with rivers running over the surface and easy to cross, and the laud of a very rich quality. The Constabulary shift to-day ten miles further nortb. The road work are now rapidly advancing towards completion, and all unnecessary clearing has been put a ..top to. It is reported that the Constabulary at Werekino also advance to-day a few miles south. Invercargill, Wednesday. On Monday a heap of stones was placed on the Otautau railway at a point where the down train would run over them, near Fairfax. The obstruction was noticed in time. A Scientific Literary Society is being formed, promoted by Mr J. T. Thomson. Auckland, Wednesday. Mr Burns, a member of the Industrial Commission, has arrived. Eleven tenders were received for the railway reclamation contract. Mounted Constable Bullen goes home, having inherited considerable property.
