An instance came under our special notice, on Thursday, in the case of .a man bamedjChas. The first case thown was that of a Misa White, aged Jl years, the daughter of a settler at Oamaru who has been totally blind for years. The editor of tbis journal, accompanied by iVTr, J. J. Cor.ncr, visited the oculists' consulting-rooms a**, the Criterion Hotel this morning. The first person the editor convened with was Daniel Mahoney, a laborer, residing at Logan's Point, who stated that he hal been totally blind for some two weeks, through a severe cold hs had contracted. He had been ut der private treatment ior a week, but he had got worse instead of tetter. He was brought to Professor Wallenburg on tho llth inst., ani s.tsce then he has been under this clever oculist's treatment, with the result that he is now recovering the sight of both ejes. John Chalmers, a brickmaker, residing at Pelichtt Ray, stated that he had been blind of the right eye for over nine week,, and the left ens wss commencing to ha affected by tbe right ono. Ha h.d been totally blind of the right eye for three months, and bad been in the hospital unier treatment, which, he states, tended to make tbe right eye worse, and to itjure the Lft one. AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. To the Editor. Sir, — You will much oblige me, as well as benefit the public in general, by inserting in your; columns regarding the cure effected on my right eye, which was totally blind when I placed 'myself under the treatment of Doctor Grant and Wallenburg. I also found mystlf using the sight of the left eye. I hate now recovered my sight, and am going to work to morrow. Cut of gratitude to those gentlemen, alow me to tbank them, and bope all those suffering, in tha eyes may avail themselves of their skill —I am, &c , Patbick Francis. Witness— -W. J. Bawden, Logan's Point, Dunedin, 7th October, 1879 Dr. Grant has recently effected a very re markable cure in the caee of Mrs D. Evans, of Kumara, who has been under .his treatment for deafness Bince the 24th Februery last, Mrs Evans has beendeaf in both cars for a very long period— ho less than thiry years— her affliction having been caused by a fever from which she suffered .everely. Since that time she hss been almost totally deaf, for she could only hear tbe loudest sounds Since she has been under-Dr Grant's treatment, her hearing has gradually improved, so thai now she can hear plainly conversations in an ordinary tone of voice.
