At the meeting of the Nelson Education Board to-day, thirty-four applications forthe office of Secretary were received, and after a long consideration the office was conferred upon Mr Stead J _llis of Christchurch. The Customs duties collected at the Port of Nelson for the month ending March 31st amounted to .£3776 8s 'i.l, apportioned as follows:— Spirits, £658 iss2.t; cigars, £7 10s; tobacco, £499 19s 6d; wine, £129 7s Bd, ale, £31 3s 2d; tea, £29 35,, coffee, £30 9s sugar, £ 169 2s 4d; goods by weight, £249 12s 8_; ndvalorom, £1687 14s 9d; other duties, £147 2s 8d; other receipts, £141 8s 2d. A meeting of Justices of the Peace forthe purpose of revising the jury list will be held at the Resident Magistrate's Court tomorrow at 1 1 a.m. In re David Goodall, of Riwaka, farmer, a bankrupt, the meeting of creditors stood adjured till this afternoon, but, as there was not a sufficient number of creditors present? to constitute a meeting, the Registrar appointed Mr A. W. Scaife Trustee. Tbe debtor put down his liabilities at £1374 10s and his assets at £2152 10s; An entertainment^ will be given in the Theatre Royal on -Tuesday evening next in aid of the V.M CA. Building Fund. A presentation of a handsome album was' made yesterday afternoon by the pupils attending Tasman-street school to Miss L. -.itching, on the occasion of her leaving to take charge of Bridge street school.
