After taking the English Channel pilot on board, and getting under way, she experienced a heavy easterly gale, which increased to such violence that she was compelled to scud right before it, and it was impossible to land the unfortunate pilot, who, consequently, had to ba carried on. Stormy weather continued most of the way to the equator, and no homeward-bound vessels were fallen in with, meanwhile the unlucky pilot had to reruuin on board, leaving his family in total ignorance of his fate, and no doubt a prey to the most terrible misgivings. The poor man had not even a change of clothes with him, but of course everything was done for his comfort in this respect. It was not until a month had elapsed aiuce leaving the shores of Great. Britain that an opportunity offered of sending back the pilot, who ultimately was put on board the Botanist, bound from Rangoon to F.ilmouth, spoken close to the equator. It is easy to imagine the joy with which the return of the long-lost husband and father would be welcomed on his arrival after two months' unexplained absence. —
