The alterations recently effected in the engine-room have made a difference in her speed, and she can now make the passage between bere and Wanganui in 14 hours. The alterations and repairs to the Wallace are being carried out vigorously, and not many weeks will elapse ere this handy steamer is once more afloat. She has been cut in two just abaft the engine room, and her length will be increased by about 7 feet 6 inches. This will make a difference in her carrying capacity. The boiler has been made nearly hew, and it is intended to put patent floats on the paddle wheels, which it is expected will materially increase her speed.
