and damages for detention £10. Mr Percy Adams, acting under instructions from Messrs Sievwright and Stout, appeared for the plaintiff 1 . Mr Fell, for the defendant, said that It might simplify matters if he at once admitted that he had the cabinet, but was detaining it for certain charges upon it. The article had been sent to him in pieces t« do the best he could with it. He had paid freight d» it to Nelson, and .the cost of putting it together, and then finding he could not dispose of it here, be had taken it to Wanganui and brought it back, for which h« had charged freight. The highest offer he had ever received wa« £S. His Worship said that he did not think defendant was justified in charging tot itie freight to Wanganui aud back, but he wat certainly entitled to the original freight to Nelsonj and the expenses Incurred by him in putting it iiito marketable shape. The aVder would be that tl^e cabinet shtfuld be returned to the plaintiff on die paj-oHent of £4 17s. He would make no order for costs.
[Before S. KiNdrJoN, and G. Gillow, Es^s., J.J.P.] W. llium Curler, charged with obtaining money under false pretences from Mr Miluer by means of a valueless cheque, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to nine months imprisonment with hard labor.
