COLLEGE SPORTS.
The annual sports, in which a considerable amount of interest is always taken, came off yesterday in the presence of a number of visitors, includiog many ladies. Many of ths contests were very keen, but the general proficiency was scarcely up to the mark of previous years. All the arrangements were good and were well carried out under the supervision of Mr Firth, the third master. The results of the various events will be found below: — 1. Throwing Cricket Ball— L. M'Hardy 1, H. Boddington 2. M'Hardy won with his first throw. 4 entered. 2. Hop, Step, and Jump (Cup)— Wratt, 38ft 3in, 1, Mowat, 38ft 2in, 2, Boddington, 38ft, 3. 8 entered. 3. Flat Race, 100 yards; all under 11 years— G. M'Rae 1, A. Reader 2. Won easily. Time, 13$secs. 4 entered. 4. Running Long Jump; all under 14 years — A. Wither, 15ft sin, 1, A. Engel and F. M'Rae, 14ft 2in, tie. In jumping off Engel won. 6 entered. 5. Running High Leap (Cup)— H. Hoddington, sft 3-Jin, 1, J. Mowat, sft Js-Jin, 2, J. Harris, sft, lin, 3. 4 entered, j 6. Flat Race, 440 yards; all under 16— A. Seymour 1, Wratt 2. 4 entered. 7. Flat Race, 150 yards (Cup)— H. Boddington I , Brown and Harris tie for second place. A capital race; time, 17Jsecs. 8. Flat Race, 100 yards; all under 15 yearsSay well 1, P. M'Hardy 2. Time, 13secs. 6 entered. 9. Running High Jump-, open to all comers— Harley, sft s|iu, 1, J. Askew, sft 4|in, 2. This was a close contest, Harley winning by a splendid jump, the best yet made on the College Grounds, being a quarter of an inch higher than a jump by R. Wither, winner of the Cup for 1878. 5 entered. 10. Flat Race, 100 yards (Cup); open to the school— J. Harris I, H. Boddington 2, Mowat 3. Harris ran well. Time, UJsecs. 5 entered. 11. Running High Jump; all nnder Sft 3in—
Moffitt, sft 3in, 1, Lightfoot and Wither, Sft Sin, tie. The jumping waa unsatisfactory, as the competitors when clearing the rope pressed it downwards with their hands. 7 entered. 12. High Jump with Pole (Cup)— C Bidwell, 9ft, 1, Boddington, Bft 6in, 2, Harkness, "ft 6in, 3. Bidwell cleared 9ft with the greatest ease; 13. Flat Race, 100 yards; open to aU comers —J. Barnicoat 1, J. Askew 2. Won easily by 10 yards. Time, lOsccs. 14. Running Long Jump (Cup)— C. Bidwell, 17ft, 1, Brown, 16ft lOin, 2, J. Mowatt, 16ft 7in, 3 6 entered. 15. Hop, Step, and Jump; all underoft3in— P. M' Hardy, 33ft llin, 1, J. Staples, 33ft Gin, 2. Good jumping and close competition. 6 entered. 16. Flat Race, 440 yards (Cup)— Brown 1, Mowatt 2, Boddington 3. Brown took the lead, and kept it until the end. Time, 6S^ecs. 5 entered. 17. High Jump with Pole; ODen to all comers— Bidwell, 9ft, 1, G. Seymour, Bffc 9in, 2. 18. Hurdle Race, 120 yards (Cup)—Boddington I, Mowat 2, Harkness 3. Time, 22£ sees. 4 entered. 19. Hurdle Race, 120 yards; open to all comers— J. Askew 1, Boddington 2. Askew took the jumps neatly, and ran well. Time, 28Jsecs. 4 entered. 20. Quadrupedal Race, 100 yards— G. Seymour, F. Oldham, and P. M'Hardy 1, W. Rout, H. Pickett, and W. Campbell 2. This was the most amusing event of the day. The'race was run in seven heats. Time, 14Jsecs. The Champion Cup was won by H. Boddington, with a total of 64 points out of a possible 82; J. Mowatt aud Brown took second and third places with 50 and 35 points respectively. 1 ' ! 1 BHLW
