CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the 'Evening Mail.' Sir, — if such a report as that, stated by " Fair Play " in yesterday's Colonist, in reference to Mr Wastney, was circulated in Richmond, I can only say it was most unfair to Mr Wastney and also to the gentlemen who proposed and seconded the vote of thanks. " Fair Play " says " the accusation is now reported as an electioneering dodge ; if so, it can only be classed as of the meanest order." If such accusation was made, I certainly agree with him ; but on the other hand I cannot help thinking on reading the whole of Fair Play's letter that it can fairly be classed as an electioneering dodge of something beyond the meanest order, but as our English grammar does not give us a way of expressing an adjective beyond the superlative, I cannot find a word for it. I am, &c, Nemo. Eichmond, Sept. 3, 1879.
