[PBEaS AGESOT.I Wellington, Monday night. The Government and Opposition have agreed that only the Loan Bill and supply ibonld be brought forward. Sir G. Grey stands out for four months' supply, but the Opposition adhere to three months. It is understood that Sir G. Grey is not supported in this by his other colleagues. The elections are to take place the first week in September, and Parliament is to reassemble the third week in September. Dr. Hector and the Secretary, Mr Callis, leave for Sydney to-morrow. Every effort is to be made by the Opposition to come to a dissolution at the end of the week It is stated that with the view of avoiding the expense and waste of time consequent upon a dissolution now, to be followed so soon by another when the Parliament expires, efforts are being made to induce Sir George Grey to advise His Excellency to send for some independent member say MrWbitaker, or Mr Montgomery, to form a temporary Ministry, in order that the measures embodied in the Government programme might be made law before the dissolution takes place. Tuesday. There was a sharp shock of earthquake this morning at fourteen minutes to eight, preceded by a loud rumbling, then a quivering sensation, and immediately afterwards a smart shock. The members of the House of Representativea are getting up a requistion signed exclusively by themselves to induce Mr Stout to reconsider his determination and allow himself to be nominated at the forthcoming election*.
r _ Timaro, Tuesday. loday Judge Ward made an order directing the prosecution of Charles Walker Wood, for fraudulent insolvency. Wood absconded lately, and was brought back from Wellington, and is now in custody Dunedix, Tuesday. The Maori prisoners seem orderly disposed and intend to conform to the prison regulations. They are to be employed on the Maitland-street Works. CiißisTCiiußCH, Tuesday. The degree of 8.A., New Zealand University, was conferred to-day on Frederick Fitchett and James Hay, both students of Canterbury College. There was a large attendance. AtreivLAttD, Tuesday.
