HORRIBLE ZULU ATROCITIES.

The Luneburg correspondent of the Natal Mercury says : — I have just time to inform you that a pretty large Zulu force has come across the Ponoolo, and commenced their atrocious barbarities. These " brave" Zulu warriors passed by the fort and laager of Luneburg at a very safe distance, because they would have to encounter «' men." The savage butchers pounced in thousands down npon single huts and houses of our friendly natives, and executed deeds of cruelty shocking to relate. They murdered old men, about fifty women, and as many helpless little boys and girls. At one place they threw seven little children deliberately into the flames of burning huts, and in another place they showed their bravery and courage by inflicting 35 assegai wounds upon the body oi a young woman. This happened at a distance

of from four to seven miles from the laager. The first report waa received at the laager from one who had escaped the frightful massacre. Patrols were immediately sent out, and they succeeded in coming up with a lot of about 400 enemies, whom they attacked; killed about 20 and put the rest to flight, recapturing a good deal of stock ; but the greater part had already escaped across the Tombe River ; and the patrol bad strict orders not to go beyond the river. The garrison of Luneburg is but small, and cannot afford to engage in any action beyond the region of f_e district. A similar massacre was perpetrated recently upon a number of friendly natives residing at Doornberg, near Landman Drift, Buffalo River.
