"Atlas" in the World says that the highest and loftiest ones of the Highest Church party claim Prince Leopold as their property, and declared that he affected illness iq order that he might not desecrate the season pf Lent by participating in fcis brother's wedding festivities. The Prince, in reality, is honest, and his indisposition was, genuine ; but these silly people would make him first false, and then Pharisaical. However, it must" be remembered that they wish also to make him their own. The Wellington correspondent of the Ot&go Daily Times, writing of affairs financial says :— -Whether rightly or wrongly, an impression prevails that the banks have reversed the screw a turn or two, and, as a measurepf self-protection, have lately been more accaniinadating to their customers. As anjins^nfce, a good story is going the rounds regarding a late interview between a wellknown merchant and his banker, the names or both being freely given. B, the merchant, was«conjered" by a creditor to whom £1000 was doe. |fe could not avoid or delay the payment, a^d so he wrote a cheque and went acrpgs to A, the banker, and told him he had jaafc drawn a cheque for £1000. A started ;to his feet; and exclaimed, w Good heavens, B, ypa don't; suppose I'll pay it ?" To which B coolly replied, " Well, i£ you don't J'll have to file my^schedule," and the cheque on presentation was duly honored. 'An Auckland telegram says ;— At the Police Coo rfc to day, Henry Frederick \William Colson, formerly a clergyman and a man of high attainments, was brought up on | a charge of vagrancy. The accused said he could not plead guilty, as he had sixpence m his pocket. If . th.e Bfnch would grant a remand ho would explain his position/ Subi Inspector Pardly said the Court had no idea of prisoner's filthy condition. The best plan wpuld.be to pend him to prison to give him time to think of his position. Prisoner was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. A Good ; Place to Get, a Husbandi-'-By the ear. ' ■-"■
