| Keoteb s Telegrams per Press Agency.] TERRIBLE EARTHQUAKE IN PERSIA. London, March 24. A severe earthquake has occurred in Northern Persia by which great damage was caused and nearly 1 100 persons perished. The London Committee recommends the French Government to appoint three Committees for the Sydney Exhibition, such Committees to control the representation of agriculture, manufactures, and science respectively. A Royal Commission has been appointed for the Sydney and Melbourne Exhibitions under the presidency of the Prince of Wales A Select Committee of the House of Commons has commenced an inquiry into Sir Bryan O'Loghlen's election. Mr Berry will be the first witness. In the House of Lords to-day, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in replying to a question, said that if the Treaty of Berlin
was not fulfilled the Sultan thought the British Fleet in the Sea of Marmora should be sent to the Black Sea to secure compli ance with the conditions, and that he (the Sultan) should be authorised to ask the assistance of his allies. The Secretary of I State added that he did not anticipate thp contingency alluded to by the Sultan would arise. St. Petfrsbuik;, March '24. A fresh case of plague has appeared at Wittlanka, in Siberia. Bo.mbw, March 25. Cavagnari is expected at Lahore to confer with the Viceroy.
