SYDNEY EXHIBITION.

At the Council Chamber yesterday afternoon the following members of the Local Committee for collecting and forwarding exhibits to this Exhibition met together:— His Worship the Mayor, Dr Irvine, Rev Beckenham, and Messrs Hunter Brown, Crewdson,' Hackett, White, Pownall, and Little. The names of Messrs Fleming, Webster, Mackay Smith, Curtis, Packer, Hale, Budden, Greenfield, Broad, Adams, Gully, and the Bishop of Nelson; Cook, Upper Moutere; Sutcliffe, Ngatimoti ; Macmahon, Riwaka , Gibbs, Totaranui j and Guinness, Collingwood* were added to the Committee, and the Rev J. Beckenham was appointed Secretary. The names of many intending exhibitors were mentioned^ and the desirability of publicly showing the articles collected before they ' were sent away was mooted. The principal articles the collection of which the Commissioners would urge are as follows — (the maximum and minimum quantities which will be received are also given, where limit is necessary) :— (1) j Gold. (2) Grain— 1 bushel. (3) Wool— lib I to 51b, fleeces; or 101 b lo 501 b, scoured. (4) Coal — sections of seam and sample of ; mm., 201 b. (5 ) Timber— Series of uniform samples only; sections with the bark on and only half the face polished, the olher half being left iv its natural state ; specimens to be not longer than three feet, except as in the case of samples illustrative of the extreme growth to which particular trees attain. (6) Flax —Dressed Fibre, in 50lb bales; Rope, and other manufactured artciles. (7) Kauri Gum. (8) Tanning Barks, Leather, Dyes, and Paint. (9) Preserved Meat-mar. 50lb, mm. 301 b, (10) Wine, Beer, and Spirits— ln bottle, max. 2 gallons ; Beer, in wood, max 18 gallons. (11) Tobacco Leaf and Cigars— max., 10lb; rain., leaf 51b, cigar lib. (12) Mineral Waters— max., a gallon. A3) Minerals and Ores. (14) Works of Artonly those illustrative of New Zealand scenery and natural history; plana, maps, &c. (15) Miscellaneous Articles— only such as illustrate the history of the country or its inhabitants.
