The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1879.

A cokkeßponi»ent telegraphs from Blenheim as follows: — "The Church of the Nativity was consecrated to-day by the Bishop of Nelson in the presence of a crowded congregation, when a large addition was made to the building fuud. Although the church is three times as large as the old one every seat is already applied for." Wk remind our readers of the Evangelistic Service to be held in the Theatre Royal tomorrow evening, when Mr Marlow of Dunedin will take the chair, aud the revs Bavin aud Beckenham are expected to give addresses. Mv S. Pitfall will preach at the Temperance Hall to-morrow evening from the text "Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance." Two Masses will be celebrated at St. Mary's to-morrow— at the hours of eight and eleven o'clock. There will also be Mass at Waimea West at eleven a.m. The Athletic sports which were announced to take place to-day were, iv consequence of the threatening aspect of the weather early in the day, postponed till a convenient day next week. It will be seen on roference to our telegrams that the Naval Brigade sustained a defeat at the hands of tho Wellington Artillery in a carbine match fired at ton yesterday. The shooting upon the whole was very good, the highest scorers in the respective teams making 66 each out of a possible 80. To-day the Navals were to fire a match with the City Rifles. The Nelson men return here in the Wallace on Tuesday morning.
