The programme of the Rifle Aasocia-* tion'e first meeting at Nelson, on 3rd March and following days, baa been issued. There are in all J9 matches, of which 8 are open to volunteers only, 9 are open to any member, and 2 are open to civilian members only. The following ia a summary of the programme: — Match No 1, any member- \ 200, 500, and GOO yds, Snider ami muzzle-loading Enfieldp, Governtnpnt pattern ; 18 prizes, total vaiue £65. No. 2, volunteers only; 200 yde, Snider rifles; 9 prizes, total value £40. No. 3, volunteers only; 200 yda, Snider carbines; 9 prizes, value £40. No. 4, any member; 800 and 1000 yde, any rifle; 9 prizes, value £45. No. 5, volunteers only; 400, 500, and 600 yds, Snider rifles; 10 prizes, value £50. No. 6^ volunteers only; 300, 400, and 500 yd*, Snider cardines ; 9 prizes, value £4\ No. 7, civilians only; 200 and 300 y^ any rifle; 9 prizes, value £30. No. fc, any member; 700, 900, and 1000 yd 8j any riflf . 5 prizeSj value x3O. No. n any member, 400, 500, and 600 yds, Snider or muzzle-loading rifles of Government pattern; 12 prizes, value £50. No. 12 civilians only; 200 and 300 yde, hoy large bore carbine; 7 prizes, value £25 No. 13, 200, 500, and 600 yds, open only to tbe 10 highest aggregate scorers belongiog to eocb Island, in matches 2, 5, and 9, who ehall produce certificates' of efficiency for the Volunteer year ending 41st March, 1878. Riflea same as used in those matches. In the event, of a tie in the aggregate scores, both sides will fire shot at 600 yds. The Bifle Chjilleoge Cup to be held by the highest scorer in the winning team for 12 months. A money prize of £5 will be given with the Cup; and the highest scorer on the losing side will receive a prize of £5. No. 14, Carbine Match, North v. South, 200* 400, and 500 yds, conditions as above, winners in matches 3, 6, and 10 competing ; a tie to be shot off at 500 yds. Prizeß as in match 13. If either of the Challenge Caps is won two years in succession (or three years at intervals) by the same person, it will become the absolute property of such winner, former winners under tbe Government Colonial Prize Firing Regulations being allowed to count. No.
15, LBdiet' Prize, any member, 200, 250, and 300 yds, any rifle or corbioe, Ist prize, ring presented by Mrs Wale?, Dunedin, acd any other prizes which may be presented. The conditions are not iflixed to matches Nos. 16, 17 (Liceiited Victuallers' prize), nod 18, (Ist prize, prcsenied by Stoke Rifles) No. 19, ConaoltitioD, any member ; 200, 300, aud 400 yds ; 12 prizes, value £25 The highest aggregate scorer in matches Nos. 2, 5, and 0, who shall produce a certificate of efficiency for the Volunteer year epding 3iat March, 1878, shall he the Volunteer Rifle Chempion for 1879, and entitled to hold the Belt for 12 months. The higheet aggregate scorer in matches Nos. 3, 6, and 10, who shall produce a a certificate of efficiency for the Volnntecr year endipg 31st March, 1878, will bo the Volunieer Carbine Champion for 1879, and entitled to hold ibe Belt for 12 month?. If either of the Champion Belts is won two years in succession (or three years at intervals) by the same person, it will become the absolute property of such winner. Former winners under the Government Colonial Prize Firing Regulations being allowed to connt. Entries by telegram or otherwise may be addressed to the Secretary at Ndaon to the 25th February, and post entries cau be made until the 3rd March, on payment of an additional fee of 2% 6d per match.
