NARROW ESOAPE OF THE DANISH ROYAL FAMILY.
A Copenhagen correspondent, writing on the 28th October, says : — The royal family bad, on Monday night, a narrow escape from instantaneous death. The King, tbe Queen, and the Princess 'lbyra hid left their country residence of Bernsdorff Castle, with tbe intention of driving imo town to be present at the representation of a new national opera. Tbe road from tbe castle crosses the railway lire from Copenhagen to Elsinore, and there is therefore a entp, which is closed whenever a train is expected <o pass ; bat on this night, by tbe neglect of (be gatekeeper, the gate was left open, and the royal carriage went on its way, when suddenly a train turned tbe curve, and passed eo close that the hind wheels of the carriage were actually touched by the buffers of the engine ; while only tbe presence of mind of the driver of the carriage containing the ladies and gentlemen in waiting, which followed close after the royal carriage, saved its occupants from certain destruction, the train passing betwen the two carriages. The Queen wee naturally much affected by the terrible danger, and her Maiesty was unable to remain in the theatre during the entire performance of the opera. Tbe railway company instantly dismissed the eatekeeper, but at tbe request of the King, who thought that ' tbe man had bad such a lesson that be would be sure to be careful in future,' be was reinstated in his situation."
