THE HAWEA MISSING.
Our telegrams from Auckland announce that the Union Company's steamer Hawea is missing. She left Gisborne for Tauranga and Auckland on Sunday morning at eleven o'clock, and since then has not been heard of. The trip to Tauranga usually occupies about twelve hours, and from Tauranga to Auckland the same time. The Post of last night suggests that it is most likely that she has taken shelter in Hicks' Bay Ifrom the gale which has been blowing ever since Sunday. It is sincerely to be hoped that this is the correct version of her long passage, and that it is not owing to anything more serious. The Hawea is commanded by Captain Kennedy, and has a full passenger list. The steamer Pretty Jane, which sailed from Gisborue for Auckland on Saturday had also failed to put in an appearance up to last night.
