" 0" f^\ TJSTOMEES who use the higher priced oils, which I have always recom\J mended in preference to the ordinary qualities, may rely on their being perfectly safe, as they are pronounced by authorities here and elsewhere to be far above the legal standard of inflammability. i The ordinary qualities of Oil imported into New Zealand, in reference to the testing ot which so much hasjoflate been reported in the newspapers, may be as a rule sufficiently safe tp stand the test required by English law, vi z 100 degrees, but may not reabh the New Zealand standard of 110 degrees, Unfortunately there have been exceptions. Badly trimmed lamps, and dirty burners, are a much greater source of danger than the use of oil ranging in! fire test from 100 to 110 degrees.
