EDUCATION BOARD.

A special meeting of the. Board was held yesterday. Present : Messrs Bamicoat (Chairman), Shephard, Jackson, Bishop of Nelson, Dencker, Malcolm, Campbell, and Wastney. The Board's report for 1377 was read and adopted. The Secretary was instructed to have the report printed, together with the tables and returns, in gazette form. The Secretary was instructed to' apply to the Education department for payment of the Inspector'* travelling expenses during the current half-year, at the rate of £i per day, with steamer and coach fare, when he ! is engaged in inspecting country schools. A letter having been read from the Chairman of the Marl borough Education Board, requesting the Nelson Inspector to act as Inspector of the Marlborsugh schools also, the Secretary was instructed to reply that the Kelson Board entertain this proposition favorably, a Committee consisting of the Chairman and Bishop of Nalson, in conjunction with the Inspector, being appointed to confer with the Chairman of the Marlborough Board on the subject when he visits Nelson. The question of revising |the teachers' salary list was referred to the Finance Committee, with a view to their reporting to the Board afc its next meeting, June 6th. The Chairman of the Board was temporarily added to the Finance Committee. The Dye-laws anfi rules of the Board, as revised, were ordered to bo printed, the byelaws being previously submitted to the Governor in Council for his Excellency's approval. The Secretary was instructed ' T to advertise for a master and assistant for Reefton, and for a mistrass and assistant at Charleston, applications to be sent in until Saturday, June 15. A latter having been received from the i master of the Ist Division of Bridga-street School, referring to bit removal from that office, the Secretary was instructed to reply that the Board decline to re-open the question.
