The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 1878.

Although no reply has been received from Wellington relative to the Nelson portion of the Suez mail, it is, we understand, pretty certain that it will catch the Arawata before she leaves the Bluff. Our correspondent telegraphs from Motueka at 3-45 p.m. that in the cricket match, Motueka v. Wakefield, Motueka in the first innings scored 67, and Wakefield 61. The bowling and fielding were rery geod.

The Customs receipts for the week ending this day amounted to £950 3s 4d. At the Police Court to-day-, two men named Jpbh swd James Campbell were brought before A. J. Richmond, and J. belahdei's, Esqs., J. J.P., charged with stealthe property of Mr Bayliss> of the Globe Hotel. The prisoners were remanded in order to allow the police to obtain additional evidence* Lectures will be delivered by the Count de Zaba on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons, when all teachers are invited to attend. On Wednesday He will lecture on the study of universal history at Motueka. Sermons in connection with the Wealeyan Sunday School will be preached to-morrow by the Rev. Mr Rowse both morning and evening, unless, as is quite possible, Mr Bavin should arrive by the Murray in time for the evening service. The right to the canteen at the Easter encampment was sold to-day by Mr Mabin to Mr Stallard for £40. Mr Burrell was the purchaser of the right to provide refreshments for visitors for £15 10s. The Italian Opera Concert Company, under the management of Signor Borioni, made their first appearauce in the Masonic Hall last evening, and made an impression most favorable. Indeed it is hai'd to imagine a better combination of Varied talent in a company so small, each member possessing excellence of a peculiar character. The tenors Signori Camero and Paladini for example are perfectly distinct in voice and style; the national ballad of the former gentleman (Espagwoh) we have seldom heard excelled, whilst the Fra poco of Signor Paladini elicited hearty applause. Signor Tessada is a pleasing baritone, and his cavatino buffo from Don Giovanni was warmly encored. The ladies Signori Caranti Vita and Venosta, whether in song or opera, are equally pleasing, the former in the duo with Siguor Tessado Crispinae la Comare was charming, and the latter lady appearing to great advantage in the last scene from the comic opera of Pipcle. Mons. Caron delighted us with his violin solos; it is rarely that we liave the opportunity of listening to an artist who has such mastery over his instrument, We regard this gentleman as a faithful exponent of the composer whose work he is called onto interpret, and we have never heard the Meditation of Gounod better rendered in Nelson. The accompaniments of Mr Turrell are all that can be desired, the costumes and appointments are tasteful and appropriate, and the whole entertainment highly enjoyable. We wish them every success, and trust that this evening and Monday they will be rewarded with a bumper house. This evening they produce the second and last scenes from the Trovatore, and on Monday the casket scene and other selections from Fausi in character, together with a choice melange of other gems. In sparsely settled districts, where medical aid is often difficult and sometimes impossible to obtain, it is extremely desirable for families to have in the house some reliable medicinal restorative. Being widely comprehensive in its curative operation, perfectly pure, undeteriorating and recommended by the medical faculty, Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps. — Advt.
