Mr Thomas reports produce prices as follows:—Flour, £13 to £13 10s for Colonial, £17 10s for Adelaide ; oats, old, 4s 3d to 4s Gd, iv ready demand ; bran, ls 2d, scarce ; wheat, 4s ; hams, SJ-d to 9d, market overstocked ; bacon, Sd, market overstocked ; cheese, 7d, in demand for prime samples ; potatoes, £4 10s to £5 10s ; maize, 5s 3d to 5s 6d, with an upward tendency; pollard, £5 las to £6 : butter, lOd. A telegram has been received announcing that the Alhambra left Melbourne on Wednesday with a large quantity of salmon ova ex s.s. Chimborazo, and apparently in good condition. After a good many meetings, a fairly attended meeting was held, and it was resolved to establish a lieform Association, and a committee was appointed to arrange a programme aud frame resolutions to be submitted at a future meeting. Saturday. H.M.S. Wolverine left for Auckland this morning. The new theatre in Manners-street opens on the first of next month. The Corporation are advertising for grouud for a new cemetery. Stephen Massett opened Inst night to a full house. Mr Butter, brother-in-law of Mr 11. 11. Lusk, has been appointed Native Agent in Waiarapa in place of Mr Maunsell, who leaves the Government service. CiuusTCiiuKcn, Friday. Sir George Grey arrived at Christchurch station at 5-45. Very few people were on the platform, but those present cheered vociferously. He was accompanied by Mr Fisher, Postmaster-General, and Mr William Mitchell, private secretary. He was driven in a drag and four to the Commercial Hotel. He will address the citizens at the Odd-fel-lows's Hall at half-past seven to-morrow (Saturday). _ At a meetingof the Selwyn County Council to-day, it was resolved to bring the Act into operation by five votes to one"", the only dissentient being Dr. Turnbull. Mr Rolles"---ton and Mr Tancred were not present. Wheat, flrm at 5s ; oats, 3s to 3s 3d ; barley, 4s 6d to 5s ; flour, 13s to 14s : bran,' £4 10s ; sharps, £5 10s ; cheese, 7*|cl'; very little grain is selling, and businass is unsettled. The Customs duties collected from 31st December to date amount to £58,703 14s Bd. The duty coll. cted to-day was £4080 4s lldj £2148 of which was paid by Messrs P. Cunningham and Co. on 3000 bales of sacks from Calcutta. The total imports of sacks from Calcutta for the season amount to over 9000 bales irom Lytteiton direct. Saturday. A young girl has been found drowned. The body is identified as that of a domestic servant. The whole thing is considered very mysterious. An address was presented to Sir George Grey this morning by the Lydenham Borough Council. lie receives several deputations on Monday. This evening he will address a public meeting at tlie Odd-Fellows' Hall. At a meeting re the New Guiuea expedition last night it was stated that twenty had already joined. The Canterbury Earn and Ewe Fair held during the last two days was a great snccess. The ram fair was greatly overstocked. The prces all round iv consequence were very low. Oajiaku, Saturday. Very little business doing in grain at present. Millers refuse to give more thau 4s, but the farmers are not at all satisfied at this price and are holding back iv expectation of obtaining 4s 2d to 4s 6d. Oats 3s to 3s 3d; barley £11 10s to £12; oatmeal £8; pearl barley £20 ; pollard £5 ; bran £4. Fielding, Saturday. A rich specimen of gold in quartz has been found in the Waikino Creek, near Mr Halcombe's residence at Fielding, Manawatu. m , Timaru, Saturday. The gram market has been active duriu°the week, and large quantities are arriving iv town for export. V/heat is firmer than last quotations, at 4s 3d for best milling ; other kinds ranging from 3s lOd up to that figure; oats, 2s 9d to 3s 3d; barley, nominal. The general quality of grain this year is superior. Prior to Sir G. Grey leaving Timaru yesterday he received a telegram from Sir J. Coode, stating that he would leave Melbourne for New Zealand by the first vessel. Auckland, Saturday. A destructive flre occurred in Eden Terrace last night, when Suisted's brewery and two houses were destroyed. The damage is great. The insurances are— New Zealand, £1300; Uuion, £885; National, £600 A steam threshing machine was working at Whau when a nmu's foot was caught in the hopper by the revolving drum. The leg had to be amputated above the thigh, aud the man expired. J Patea, Saturday. Major Atkinson addressed a large number of his constituents last night, when a vote of confidence was passed.
