Melbourne, Saturday. There is no fresh development in the political crisis.
Mr Edward Wilson, of the Argus, died in London on the 10th.
It is rumored that unless there is a speedy settlement of the existing dispute both Chambers of the Legislature will be dissolved, the dissolution to take place early in March.
At a Cabinet meeting on Monday next, Mr Berry will probably submit the names of certain officers of the department under his jurisdiction for dismissal. , • . .
The services of twelve school inspectors have been dispensed with, and further changes in the Railway and Public Works departments are contemplated.
It is stated that a Bill for the reform of the Council is being drafted, and that this will be the first measure to be submitted to Parliament on its meeting on the sth of February. Should the Council reject the measure, the Government will appeal to the country on the grounds that the Legislative Council refuses self-reformation.
Sydney, Saturday. The Postmaster-General, replying to a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, approved of the route for a duplicate cable from Western Australia to Singapore, and hinted at the desirability of obtaining the assistance of other Colonial Governments.
The heat in the interior is intense, and several fatal sunstrokes are reported. The salaries of State schoolmasters have been increased. Monday. Arrived — Rotorua.
