The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 1878.

Mr. Sharp, M.H.R, will address the electors at the Provincial Hall this evening at eight o'clock. By the last trip of the Lady Barkly from Collingwood three,barß of gold, weighing in air 256 ounces, were brought over to the Natioual Bank from the Golden Ridge Mine. The last shipment from the same mine was in' September last, and consisted of 227 ounces. There was a long list of civil cases at the Magistrates' Court this morning, but the only one that went to a hearing was that of Sharp v. Egan (of Wellington) for £10, being the amount of a promissory note due and unpaid. Judgment for amount claimed and costs 10s lid. The examinations for the University Scholarships commenced yesterday. The only Nelson candidate is George Alexander Harkness, a pupil at the Nelson College. Odr obituary list to-day contains notices of the death of two sisters, the daughters of the late Mr T. Sullivan, who were well-known and respected by many who are still residing in Nelson.
